God’s Calendar in the Bible
Our God is not a God of confusion. In Scripture, every month is 30 days long. This is consistent throughout Genesis to Revelation.
The 1260 Years of Prophecy
The Bible speaks of 1260 years of antichrist power, where the truth of God was replaced by the supremacy of the papacy. Dividing 1260 years by 30 days gives us 42 months, which matches the prophetic calendar used in Scripture.
Revelation 11:3 says, “And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days (1260 days), clothed in sackcloth.”
1260 days divided by 30 equals 42 months.
How Many Days Are in a Month According to the Bible?
In ancient times, a year was 12 months of 30 days, making 360 days in total. Abraham used this calendar in Ur, and the flood account in Genesis confirms it: 150 days is counted as five months, showing each month was 30 days.
So, biblically, a year is 360 days.
The Days of Noah
Genesis 7 and 8 record:
-
The flood began on the 17th day of the 2nd month.
-
The ark rested on the 17th day of the 7th month.
That is exactly five months, equaling 150 days. Once again, each month equals 30 days.
This shows the biblical year has 360 days, even though our modern year has 365.24 days.
The Calendar in Revelation
Revelation confirms the same structure:
-
42 months = 1260 days.
-
3½ years = 42 months = 1260 days.
God does not change. His calendar is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Malachi 3:6 says, “For I am the LORD, I change not.”
James 5:17 also confirms the 3½ year cycle with Elijah’s prayer: “It rained not on the earth for three years and six months.”
Scriptural Basis
We cannot use Gentile calendars (Roman or Gregorian) to interpret prophecy. Those are based on human calculation. God’s calendar is based on His spoken Word, which cannot change.
Isaiah 8:20 says, “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.”
To use man-made calendars in interpreting Scripture is dangerous and unbiblical.
Our Calendar vs. God’s Calendar
-
Julius Caesar reformed the Roman calendar in 45 BC.
-
Augustus Caesar adjusted it further.
-
Pope Gregory XIII finalized the Gregorian calendar in AD 1582, cutting 10 days from October.
All these changes show that man’s calendars are inconsistent. God’s calendar remains perfect.
The Beast and Changing Times
Daniel 7:23–25 speaks of a beast that would “think to change times and laws.” History shows this fulfilled through Rome:
-
Pagan Rome changed the calendar under Julius Caesar.
-
Papal Rome changed it under Pope Gregory.
Though they appear different, pagan Rome and papal Rome share the same antichrist spirit. Revelation 13 identifies this as the same beast system.
Conversion Between Calendars
1 Bible year = 360 days.
1 solar year = 365.24219879 days.
This means 70 Bible years equal 69 of our years.
For example:
-
70 weeks = 490 years.
-
490 Bible years = 483 of our years.
Genesis 29:27 also shows how “a day represents a year” in prophecy.
The Feasts of the Lord
Why does this matter? Because the feasts of the Lord are tied to His calendar.
Leviticus 23:1–2 says:
“The feasts of the Lord, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts.”
These feasts are not Jewish feasts, but the Lord’s feasts. To deny them or attribute them only to Israel is to deny God’s Word.
Hebrews 10 shows that ceremonial laws were fulfilled in Christ, but the feasts remain holy convocations. They must be celebrated in obedience to God’s appointed times.
John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
Isaiah 55:11 says, “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void.”
God’s Word is eternal, and His calendar is eternal.
✅ This flow now:
-
Starts with God’s order.
-
Shows evidence from Noah.
-
Confirms with Revelation.
-
Explains dangers of man’s calendar.
-
Connects prophecy with “the beast.”
-
Clarifies conversion between calendars.
-
Ends with the importance of God’s feasts.
The Lord’s New Year in Exodus
Exodus 12:1–2 says:
“And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.”
These are the Lord’s spoken words. And because the Word of the Lord is the Lord Himself, this connects with:
-
John 1:1 – “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
-
Isaiah 55:11 – “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”
God’s Word is eternal, and His New Year is established by His own authority.
The Sabbath in the Ten Commandments
The seventh-day Sabbath is also the Lord’s spoken Word. In Exodus 16:25 Moses said:
“Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field.”
Notice that the Sabbath is not attributed to Israel but to the Lord Himself.
The Sabbath was first established at creation:
Genesis 2:1–3
-
“Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.”
-
“And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.”
-
“And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.”
This command was later written in the law:
Exodus 20:8–11
-
“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.”
-
“Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work.”
-
“But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates.”
-
“For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.”
Again, these are the Lord’s words, and therefore they are the Lord Himself (John 1:1; Isaiah 55:11).
Not Limited to Israel
At no point does Scripture attribute the New Year, the feasts, or the Sabbath only to Israel. They are the Lord’s feasts and the Lord’s Sabbath. All true believers in Jesus Christ—both Jew and Gentile—are called to accept, believe, serve, and honor Him by keeping His Word.
A Call to the Church
The so-called New Testament churches must wake up to the call of Christ and be revived by the Holy Spirit. We are to accept, believe, obey, and observe:
-
The Lord’s New Year,
-
The Lord’s feasts, and
-
The Ten Commandments, including the seventh-day Sabbath.
And this should be done with joy, gladness, and everlasting gratitude to our Savior, Jesus Christ, who is ours forever, to His eternal glory.
