Jesus Christ’s Church is One

According to the Bible, it is impossible for Jesus Christ to have established two different churches. Matthew 16:18 states:

“And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

The “rock” in this passage refers to Jesus Christ Himself, as clarified in 1 Corinthians 10:4:

“And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and the Rock was Christ.”

Jesus Christ died for the salvation of the whole world, and His church is one. His death on the cross is recorded in all four Gospels:

• Matthew 27:50: Jesus, when He had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.

• Mark 15:37: And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.

• Luke 23:46: And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, He said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, He gave up the ghost.

• John 19:30: When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, He said, It is finished: and He bowed His head, and gave up the ghost.

Salvation through Jesus Christ requires faith in Him. Those who accept Him are part of His one true church.

The Meaning of Peter’s Name

Jesus gave Simon the name Cephas, which means “a stone,” to distinguish him from the “rock,” which is Christ (John 1:41-43):

1. One of the two who heard John speak and followed Him was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.

2. He first found his own brother Simon and said, “We have found the Messiah, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.”

3. Andrew brought Simon to Jesus, and Jesus said, “Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, a stone.”

This shows that Peter (a stone) is not the same as the rock (Christ). The Roman Catholic Church ignores this distinction, falsely claiming Peter as their first bishop.

False Doctrines and Idolatry

The Church teaches false doctrines, including making and worshipping images, which God explicitly forbade in Exodus 20:1-5:

“Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, or in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them.”

Psalm 135:15-18 also warns against idolatry:

“The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands. They have mouths, but speak not; eyes have they, but see not; ears have they, but hear not; neither is there any breath in their mouths. They that make them are like unto them; so is everyone that trusteth in them.”

Evidence of Idolatry in the Roman Catholic Church

The Church, through its leaders, continues to practice idolatry, as shown in the images below:

• The Pope or priests kissing images of baby Jesus.

• Crowning the image of Mary as Queen of Heaven.

• Kneeling, praying, and worshipping images of Mary.

Conclusion

With these truths, it is clear that Christ did not start the Roman Catholic Church. The actions of the Church’s leaders demonstrate the presence of Antichrists. More of their atrocities will be discussed in Part 3.
