It is well to remind Presbyterians, Baptists, Methodists, and all other Christians that the Bible does not support their observance of Sunday anywhere. Sunday is an institution of the Roman Catholic Church, and those who observe the day follow a commandment of the Catholic Church.
und Priest Brady, in an address, Elizabeth, NJ ‘News,’ March 18, 1903.
Protestants do not realize that by observing Sunday, they accept the authority of the Church’s spokesperson, the Pope.
und Our Sunday Visitor, February 5, 1950.
Of course, the Catholic Church claims that the change from Saturday Sabbath to Sunday was her act, and this act is a mark of her ecclesiastical authority in religious matters.
und H.F. Thomas, Chancellor of Cardinal Gibbons.
Sunday is our mark of authority. The Church is above the Bible, and this transfer of Sabbath observance proves that fact.
und Catholic Record of London, Ontario, September 1, 1923.
Protestants accept Sunday rather than Saturday as the day for public worship after the Catholic Church made the change. But the Protestant mind does not seem to realize that in observing Sunday, they accept the authority of the spokesman for the Church, the Pope.
und Our Sunday Visitor, February 5, 1950.
These quotations are exactly correct. The Catholic Church designated Sunday as the day for corporate worship and gets full credit or blame for the change.

Q: Have you any other proofs that Protestants are not guided by Scripture?
A: Yes, many, but only a few can be mentioned here. They reject much clearly contained in Scripture and profess more that is nowhere found in the Divine Book.
Q: Give some examples?
A: They should, if Scripture were their only rule, wash one another’s feet as Christ commanded in John 13. They should keep Saturday, not Sunday, according to the commandment “Remember thou keep holy the Sabbath-day.” This commandment has not been changed or abrogated in Scripture.
und Rev. Stephen Keenan, A Doctrinal Catechism, New York, 1857, p. 101.
Q: Do you have proof that the Church has power to institute festivals and precepts?
A: Yes. If she did not have such power, she could not have substituted Sunday for Saturday, a change with no Scriptural authority.
und Rev. Stephen Keenan, A Doctrinal Catechism, 1857, p. 174.
Q: How can we show a Protestant he speaks unreasonably against fasts and abstinences?
A: Ask why he keeps Sunday instead of Saturday as a day of rest but refuses fasting or abstinence. Scripture commands Saturday observance but nowhere mentions Sunday. If he neglects Saturday and substitutes Sunday because of ancient Church usage, then logically he should also observe fasting and abstinence as the Church ordained.
und Rev. Stephen Keenan, A Doctrinal Catechism, 1857, p. 181.
Q: Which is the Sabbath day?
A: Saturday is the Sabbath day.
Q: Why observe Sunday instead of Saturday?
A: Because the Catholic Church transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday.
und Rev. Peter Geiermann, The Convert’s Catechism of Catholic Doctrine, p. 50.
Q: Should Protestants doubt when they see their co-religionists not following the Bible?
A: Yes. They baptize infants, reject the Jewish Sabbath, observe Sunday without scriptural basis, neglect washing one another’s feet, and eat things forbidden in Scripture. They must doubt if they think at all.
und Controversial Catechism by Stephen Keenan, 1896.
The Church, after changing the day of rest from the Jewish Sabbath (Saturday) to the first day of the week (Sunday), made the Third Commandment refer to Sunday as the Lord’s Day. The Council of Trent condemns those who deny the Ten Commandments are binding on Christians.
und The Catholic Encyclopedia, 1908.
The Roman Catholic Church changed Sabbath observance to Sunday by divine authority given by Christ. Protestants, claiming the Bible as the only guide, have no basis to observe Sunday. Seventh-day Adventists are the only consistent Protestants in this matter.
und Catholic Universe Bulletin, 1942.
Many believe in religious practices not found in the Bible. The Sabbath was commanded to be Saturday, but most Christians keep Sunday because the Church revealed it outside the Bible.
und The Catholic Virginian, 1947.
You can read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation and find no command to sanctify Sunday. The Scriptures enforce Saturday observance, a day we never sanctify.
und The Faith of Our Fathers, James Cardinal Gibbons, 1876.
Deny the Church’s authority and you cannot justify substituting Sunday for Saturday in the Fourth Commandment. The Church is above the Bible, and this change proves it.
und Catholic Record, 1923.
Since Saturday, not Sunday, is specified in the Bible, it is curious that non-Catholics who claim to follow the Bible observe Sunday. This change was made about fifteen centuries before Protestantism began and remains a reminder of the Mother Church from which they broke away.
und The Faith of Millions.
The boldest change the Church made was changing the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday. This was not based on Scripture but on the Church’s authority. Those who hold Scripture alone should logically keep Saturday holy.
und Sentinel, Saint Catherine Catholic Church, 1995.
If Protestants followed the Bible, they would worship on the Sabbath. Keeping Sunday is following Catholic Church law.
und Albert Smith, Archdiocese of Baltimore, 1920.
Observing Sunday is homage Protestants pay to the Catholic Church’s authority, even if unintentionally.
und Monsignor Louis Segur.
What important question does the papacy ask Protestants?
“You say Saturday was the Jewish Sabbath but the Christian Sabbath is Sunday. Changed by whom? Who has authority to change God’s command to keep the seventh day holy? You are Protestant, claiming the Bible as your sole rule, yet you reject the clear command to keep the seventh day and replace it with Sunday. You believe the other nine commandments are still binding; who gave you authority to change the fourth?”
und Library of Christian Doctrine.
There is only one Church claiming power to make laws binding on conscience, including the institution of Sunday. Sunday is not the Sabbath. Any schoolboy knows Sunday is the first day of the week. No one can prove by the Bible alone that Sunday must be kept holy. It was the Catholic Church that changed the day from Saturday to Sunday.

Proof that the Church commands feasts and holy days comes from changing Sabbath to Sunday, which Protestants accept, but then contradict themselves by keeping Sunday and rejecting other Church feasts.
und Henry Tuberville, 1833.
The idea that God directly set Sunday as the day of worship has been abandoned. Instead, God gave the Church the power to choose holy days. The Church chose Sunday and later added others.

und Rev. John Laux, 1936.
Sunday is a Catholic institution, defended only on Catholic principles. There is no Scripture passage supporting Sunday instead of Saturday worship.
und Catholic Press, 1900.
The Sabbath was Saturday, not Sunday. Protestants must wonder why they keep Sunday when God said to keep the Sabbath day holy. Sunday does not appear in the Bible; by observing it, they obey the Catholic Church’s authority.
und Canon Cafferata.
Reason demands a choice: either Protestantism with Saturday Sabbath or Catholicity with Sunday. Compromise is impossible.
und John Cardinal Gibbons, 1893.
The Pope has power to change times, abrogate laws, and dispense with all things, even Christ’s precepts.
und Decretal, de Tranlatic Episcop.
The Bible clearly shows the Sabbath is Saturday with no support for Sunday observance. The Catholic Church admits it changed God’s word and led many astray. The question is: will you obey truth or follow man’s traditions? God never changed His holy Sabbath or transferred its solemnity to Sunday. Rome, in partnership with the Catholic Church, changed Sabbath to Sunday. What will you believe? The God of the Bible or traditions of men? The choice is yours.
