How Jesus Christ Fulfilled the Feasts of Leviticus
These are the ways that Jesus Christ fulfilled the feasts ordained by God in the book of Leviticus.
A Word to the Churches
Before we explore how Jesus fulfilled these feasts, churches must understand: the observance of the Lord’s feasts no longer includes ceremonial laws—no candle lighting, no rituals, no animal bones, no sacrifices. All of that was nailed to the cross by our Lord Jesus Christ. Please read Hebrews 10:1–39 for deeper understanding.
God’s Prophetic Plan in the Feasts
The feasts of Leviticus reveal an incredible prophetic picture of God’s redemptive plan. Amos 3:7 tells us that God does nothing without first revealing it to His prophets. From Genesis to Revelation, God lays out His plan, and the seven feasts in Leviticus 23 are key parts of that pattern.
The Hebrew word for “feasts” is moadim, meaning “appointed times.” These were carefully timed and structured by God to tell a special story. Spread across seven months in the biblical calendar, they are still celebrated by observant Jews—and they remain relevant for Christians who trust in Jesus, the Jewish Messiah.
The Seven Feasts and Their Fulfillment in Jesus Christ
Spring Feasts (Already Fulfilled by Jesus)
-
Passover (Leviticus 23:5)
Pointed to Jesus as our Passover Lamb (1 Corinthians 5:7), whose blood was shed for our sins. He was crucified on the exact day and hour the Passover lambs were being slaughtered (John 19:14). -
Unleavened Bread (Leviticus 23:6)
Pointed to Christ’s sinless life (leaven symbolizes sin). His body lay in the grave, like a kernel waiting to become the bread of life. -
First Fruits (Leviticus 23:10)
Pointed to Christ’s resurrection. He rose on this day, fulfilling the meaning of being the “first fruits” from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:20). -
Weeks or Pentecost (Leviticus 23:16)
Occurred 50 days after First Fruits. This feast marked the outpouring of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2) and the birth of the Church, when 3,000 Jews believed and were baptized.
Fall Feasts (Yet to Be Fulfilled)
-
Trumpets (Leviticus 23:24)
Believed by many to point to the Rapture of the Church (1 Thessalonians 4:13–18; 1 Corinthians 15:52), when Jesus will return for His bride. -
Day of Atonement (Leviticus 23:27)
Points to Christ’s work on the Cross. Many see this as symbolic of His Second Coming, but Christians commemorate it as a reminder of the price Jesus paid for our redemption. -
Tabernacles (Leviticus 23:34)
Points to when Jesus will again “tabernacle” with His people during His millennial reign (Micah 4:1–7).
Why Christians Should Remember These Feasts
Shouldn’t God’s children, saved by the blood of Christ, honor these feasts—not through rituals, but in remembrance? Just like we commemorate the Lord’s Supper, we can reflect on what Jesus has done and will do again. No more animal sacrifices—they were fulfilled in Christ.
The choice is yours.
A Contrast: God’s Feasts vs. the World’s Feasts
Some believe that many popular holidays today stem from human tradition rather than divine instruction—particularly those instituted by the Roman Church. Compare:

Easter | Passover |
Valentine’s Day | Unleavened Bread |

The Early Church vs. Today’s Church
The early Church, especially after the apostles, honored God’s calendar. Even in Egypt, God separated His people, starting with the first Passover in the month of Abib (Exodus 12 and 13). This month marked the beginning of the biblical year—a symbol of spiritual separation from the world’s vanity.
Jesus emphasized this separation in John 17:14–20, saying His followers are not of the world, just as He is not. God calls us to be sanctified in truth, and His Word is truth.
Should Christians Be Separate?
God’s call to separation is still clear:
“Now therefore, if you will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then you shall be a peculiar treasure unto Me above all people… a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation.” – Exodus 19:5–6
Supporting verses:
-
Deuteronomy 7:6, 14:21
-
1 Kings 8:53, Psalm 135:4
-
1 Peter 2:5, 9, Isaiah 62:12, 1 Corinthians 3:17
Christian Jews still honor the biblical calendar—without sacrifices, because Jesus is our Passover Lamb (1 Corinthians 5:7–8). These include the Passover, Unleavened Bread, Pentecost, and more.
The Mark of the Beast?
Many assume the mark of the beast is physical, but some believe it refers to Sunday worship, instituted in opposition to God’s laws. See Daniel 7:25.
God has completed His work—it’s now up to each individual to follow what Scripture teaches.
Final Warning and Encouragement
You’ve been warned: separate yourselves from the feasts of this world, and honor the ones God established.
Leviticus 23:1–2
“And the Lord spoke unto Moses, saying, ‘Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the Lord, which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts.’”
Leviticus 23 (Key Highlights)
-
Passover: 14th day of the first month
-
Unleavened Bread: Begins the 15th day of the same month
-
First Fruits, Pentecost, Trumpets, Day of Atonement, Tabernacles — all detailed in Leviticus 23 and observed at specific appointed times.
God’s Calendar Has Not Changed
Exodus 12:2 and 13:3–4 confirm Abib (or Nisan) as the first month. Jesus observed it. So did the apostles. The Passover is still observed on the 14th of Abib (approximately April 14 today).
A Question for Today’s Christians

2 Peter 3:10-1410 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. 11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. 13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness. 14: So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless, and at peace with him.Footnotes: Some manuscripts be burned up Or as you wait eagerly for the day of God to come |
Luke 21:34-36 34 “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap. 35 For it will come upon all those who live on the face of the whole earth. 36 Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.” |
1 Thessalonians 5:1-61 Thessalonians 51 Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, 2for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 3 While people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. 4: But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. 5:You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. 6So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled. |
John 3:3-73: In reply Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again. 4″ How can a man be born when he is old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb to be born!” 5: Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. 6: Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the gives birth to spirit.7:You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’Or born from above; also in verse 7 Or but spirit The Greek is plural. |
