Confessions, Repentance, and Prayers for Forgiveness
For all the Churches of our Lord Jesus Christ around the world
In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth
We, the New Testament churches, with the understanding now opened to us through the Scriptures, come in deep sorrow and heavy hearts. The Lord has made us aware of the terrible weight of our sins—the gravity of rejecting, neglecting, and rebelliously disobeying the spoken words of our Lord Jesus Christ. His words are Himself. In turning away from His commandments, His feast days, and the seventh-day Sabbath which He blessed and hallowed, we have sinned greatly.
These commandments were written on our hearts and minds through the blood of Jesus Christ. Yet we have turned our backs on them. We acknowledge that this rejection is sinful, wicked, and shameful. We deeply regret it. We are very ashamed of these, our greatest sins, and are grieved for what we have done.
Now, Lord, we ask that You pour out upon us the spirit of confession and repentance. We say with all our hearts: we have sinned—we have sinned grievously. With broken hearts and contrite spirits, we denounce all unrighteousness, trespassing, and evil. We repent sincerely, wholeheartedly, and with deep sorrow.
We are ashamed, distressed, and remorseful for having sinned against You. We beg You, Lord Jesus, for forgiveness. We now understand the need for true confession and repentance. As Your servant—commanded and commissioned by You—I stand in the gap and offer up our confessions:
“O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping covenant and mercy with those who love You and keep Your commandments: We have sinned. We have committed iniquity. We have rebelled by departing from Your spoken words, from Your feast days and Sabbaths. We have not heeded Your voice, and we confess that this is a grievous offense.”
We, Your New Testament churches, have turned from Your ways for many years. Because of Your grace, we are not consumed. And so we now come in humility to confess and repent. We plead for Your forgiveness, Lord. Our sins are more than the sands of the sea—a tsunami of iniquity. Yet You have kept us alive through Your mercy so that we might turn back to You.
Lord, for Your name’s sake, forgive us. These sins have brought shame and disgrace upon Your churches. The weight of our guilt, our presumptuous and rebellious acts, has made us desperate for cleansing and renewal. Individually and collectively, we confess and repent. We turn away from all unrighteousness and evil. We denounce our sins in the most sincere and honest way that true repentance demands.
Again, I emphasize the urgent need for complete confession and repentance in all the churches of our Lord Jesus Christ. We, the servants and leaders, have made a shipwreck of the truth. We have led the churches into sin. We now recognize the full magnitude of our offense.
We, Your New Testament churches and our leaders, have sinned willingly, deliberately, and rebelliously. We have defied the words of the Almighty God and our Lord Jesus Christ, who created all things. As one whom You have commanded to speak to the churches, I now say: our sins have left us with no hiding place.
We have provoked Your wrath beyond measure. We set up abominations and multiplied offenses. Now we bow the knees of our hearts and beg for mercy. We have sinned, O Lord. We acknowledge our shameful, grievous, and presumptuous sins. We are deeply sorry.
Please, Lord, do not be angry with us forever. Do not condemn us to eternal separation in darkness. You are full of mercy and compassion, even to the unworthy who truly repent. Show us Your goodness once again. Save us, not because we are deserving, but because of Your great love and everlasting mercy. Revive us, Lord, with the fire of Your spoken words.
We will praise You forever, as the hosts of heaven do. Lord Jesus Christ, revive Your churches. Free us from these terrible sins we have committed over centuries. We are deeply sorry. Forgive us.
As Your servant, I also confess my own sins with deep remorse and brokenness of spirit. I repent sincerely and submit to Your mercy. You have commanded me to proclaim this message to Your churches: that You will forgive and revive those who repent.
The New Testament churches have strayed completely from Christ’s path. We have sinned in words, actions, and deeds. Evil is being done openly in churches across the world—by leaders and congregations alike. We have forsaken Your holy day, choosing instead to worship on the sixth day, embracing the mark of the beast from Revelation 13.
These sins require total repentance. We must cast off every evil weight and ask You to free us sincerely and fully from all unrighteousness. We denounce these wicked acts. We truly repent.
We failed to listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit, who was given to guide us into all truth. As John 16:13 says, “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth… he will speak what he hears and declare to you what is to come.” Yet we ignored Him and despised Your words—despised You, Lord Jesus Christ.
Because of our ignorance and rebellion, the churches have been filled with corrupt leaders: false pastors, evangelists, shepherds, and servants. Many have become ravening wolves, devouring the very sheep they were meant to protect. The hearts of the saints are divided. Brothers seek the downfall of one another—for power, fame, money, and luxury.
Your altars have become boxing rings. Pastors fight pastors. Members fight pastors. People seek leadership not for spiritual growth, but for personal gain. We have disgraced Your name. The gatherings we call “church” are filled with pride, division, ambition, and hypocrisy.
Now, Lord, we fall before You in sorrow. We repent with everything in our being—with sadness, heartbreak, and contrite spirits. We ask for Your forgiveness.
We now know we have done terrible things. We have rejected You, Lord, by rejecting Your words. But by Your grace, we have come to this realization and turn back to You in full repentance.
Lord Jesus Christ, forgive us. Revive Your churches. Amen.
