The Five Sins Against Our Lady
This is an edited version of Guido Del Rose’s article, “Fatima: The Five Sins.”
Mr. Del Rose emphasizes that Our Lady asked for the conversion of sinners and for reparation for the sins that offend her Immaculate Heart, along with the consecration of Russia.
“My daughter, the motive is simple: there are five ways in which people offend and blaspheme against the Immaculate Heart of Mary:
-
The blasphemies against the Immaculate Conception,
-
Against her virginity,
-
Against the Divine Maternity, refusing at the same time to accept her as the Mother of all mankind,
-
Those who try publicly to implant in children’s hearts indifference, contempt, and even hatred against this Immaculate Mother, and those who insult her directly in her sacred images.

“Here, my daughter, is the reason why the Immaculate Heart of Mary [My Mother] causes Me to ask for this little act of reparation and by means of it, move My mercy to forgive those souls who had the misfortune of offending her. As for you, try without ceasing, with all your prayers and sacrifices, to move Me to mercy toward those poor souls.” (1)
Spoken by Our Savior in 1930 to Sister Lucia, these words and others given afterwards reveal a surprising truth with urgent importance for mankind. Despite their significance, they have had little impact on the faithful, remaining largely unnoticed for over half a century—a hidden gem in the spiritual treasure known as Fatima.
Regarding these sins, much evidence from the Fatima Message suggests that the great triumph of the Immaculate Heart and the peace that follows can happen only after these offenses have been sufficiently repaired. These sins, more than any other cause, delay the fulfillment of the Divine Will and threaten mankind with terrible punishments.
Like a spreading cancer, these offenses against the Virgin Mary are causing among the faithful a decline in belief in her special role as Mediatrix of All Graces. This results in a corresponding decrease of those graces. At the same time, these sins prevent large numbers of people from seeking special, extraordinary graces from her Heart—powerful graces offered to all by our Redeemer through trust and confidence in her Immaculate Heart.
A decline in the flow of grace allows the forces of evil to grow stronger, leading to a surge of sin both in quality and quantity.
If this continues, Divine Justice would demand a severe worldwide punishment unlike anything the human race has experienced since Christ’s birth. This is one of the Fatima prophecies—either to be fulfilled or avoided.
Our Savior’s wish
The Divine Will is clearly defined by both Our Savior and His Mother in the Fatima Message. The first clear expression came during the second apparition on June 13, 1917, when Our Lady said to the visionaries:
“Yes, I will take Jacinta and Francisco soon [to Heaven]. But you are to stay here some time longer. Jesus wishes to make use of you to make me known and loved. He wants to establish in the world devotion to My Immaculate Heart.” (2)
Those prophecies have indeed come true. The two seers, Francisco and Jacinta, passed on to their eternal reward in 1919 and 1920. Lucia became a nun in the Order of the Sisters of St. Dorothy and later received many visits from Our Lord and Our Lady, most from the Redeemer Himself. In this way, she has served as the “Apostle of the Immaculate Heart,” revealing much about the Savior’s will regarding devotion to His Mother.

A second reference to Our Lord’s desire came during the third apparition the following month, when Our Lady showed the children Hell and said:
“You have seen Hell where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God wishes to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart. If what I say to you is done, many souls will be saved and there will be peace.” (3)
After entering the religious order, Lucia received several appearances from the Savior, who clarified this deep desire of the Holy Trinity and His own strong wish regarding this devotion to the Immaculate Heart. Since it is a wish, not a command, He does not oblige the Church or individuals to honor it. Instead, He leaves it to our free will, preferring a generous offering freely given.
An overview of the problem
To understand the urgency of these sins, we can list a few key points before examining them more closely:
-
Mary is the Mediatrix of All Graces.
-
It is God’s will that we seek special, powerful graces from the Virgin through devotion to her Immaculate Heart.
-
These extraordinary graces help remove the obstacles (the five sins) that currently restrict the ordinary flow of graces from her Heart. This restriction allows evil to grow rapidly, condemning many souls to Hell.
-
This divine wish challenges individual Catholics and the Church hierarchy to show greater confidence in Mary’s role—a sacred mission given by God that includes all her privileges and titles.
-
Whether peace or punishment comes depends on the fulfillment or neglect of this Divine Plan.
Our Lady’s role as Mediatrix of All Graces is well established in Church teaching. While not yet defined as a solemn dogma, it has been a consistent part of Church Tradition since early Christianity. Popes in recent times have repeatedly confirmed this title in various documents.
The Fatima Message adds a new dimension. Special, extraordinary graces are now offered by Our Lord through devotion to His Mother’s Immaculate Heart. This devotion is the remedy against Satan’s latest and deadliest attack on the Church. Although Our Lord and Our Lady refer to the devotion in the singular, it clearly has two aspects.
The Devil’s decisive battle
Let’s consider this challenge from Hell. Our Lady of Fatima warned us about it at its beginning in July 1917 with her famous prophecy:
“Russia will spread her errors throughout the world, promoting wars and persecution of the Church.” (4)
It was no accident that this prediction came the same year Russia officially apostatized, allowing Satan to launch an all-out assault on the Mystical Body of Christ. Since then, this prediction has unfolded as more states have followed Russia’s example, formally rejecting their Christian roots and denying the supernatural origin and destiny of their lands and their Founder, Christ.
Even more alarming is the possibility that many more nations will join this movement, ultimately rejecting Christ altogether—the source of their existence and reason for being.
From the strong evidence of this threat, here are two examples:
