Reflection on Believers’ Contribution
In all the above, what was the contribution of the believers? Factually, nothing.
What can we boast of doing to help God? Factually, nothing.
What addition did we make to these marvelous works of God? Factually, nothing.
As I considered these questions, as a helpless human being, confronted with the work of the merciful God, I burst into tears and felt bitterness in my spirit. I said, alas, we believers have wronged the all-loving God, our Creator, in all our wicked and unloving ways.
Yes, we have accepted Jesus Christ, but this is not by our own power or effort—it is by the grace of God Almighty. As Scripture says:
John 6:44
“No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.”
