Mary from Heaven Saved Pope John Paul II from a Gunshot and a Fall

We don’t know why Pope John Paul II kept this picture hidden for years, but the Vatican has recently published it for the first time. It was taken by one of his security guards just as the Pope was attacked and falling in his Popemobile. You can see the pain on his face.

Take a look at the picture above. You can see Mother Mary holding John Paul II in her arms at the moment he was shot in 1981. This happened on May 13, 1981, in St. Peter’s Square, where Pope John Paul II was preparing to address the crowd. He was holding his rosary, which he always carried.

When the shots rang out and he collapsed, a woman appeared out of nowhere, rushed to his side, and embraced him. That image is the one shown above. It was reportedly taken by a bystander who had been photographing the Pope. The mysterious woman vanished as suddenly as she appeared.

After recovering, the first thing Pope John Paul II asked for was his rosary. When it was placed in his hands, he said he felt that Mother Mary had guided the bullet’s path through him. He was known for his devotion to the Rosary, once saying, “The best prayer I like is the Rosary.”

Joaquin Navarro-Valls, a Vatican spokesman, explained that the photo underwent years of study. At first, the image quality was poor and unclear. Experts from around the world examined it and confirmed there were no tricks involved. Now, the Vatican shares this image as a gift—showing the Mother of God holding Pope John Paul II in her arms. It’s a powerful and beautiful sight.
