The Roman Catholic Church Catechism removed God’s second commandment which forbids idol worship, and split the tenth commandment in two, to fill the gap.
“You shall not make idols for yourselves; neither a carved image nor a sacred pillar shall you rear up for yourselves; nor shall you set up an engraved stone in your land, to bow down to it; for I am the LORD your God.” Leviticus 26:1
“You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God.” Exodus 20:4,5
The Catholic Church has many graven images, idols; of baby Jesus, of Jesus on the cross, Mary, Peter, etc.
And the Pope and Catholics bow to the statues and pray to them.
A statue of the Holy Virgin Mary of Fatima is carried during a candlelight vigil at the holy shrine. Thousands of Catholics are clearly seen venerating this idol of Mary.
A shrine is a holy or sacred place, which is dedicated to a specific deity, ancestor, hero, martyr, saint, daemon or similar figure of awe and respect, at which they are venerated or worshiped. (wiki)

Salvation is through Messiah alone, not through Mary!
The Bible says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6
The Bible says, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
The Bible says, “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all.” 1 Timothy 2:5-6
Praying to Mary is harlotry, as you are revering and praying to someone else other than the Messiah who paid for your redemption with His blood as the Passover Lamb of Elohim.
Messiah alone is your Savior and Intercessor. The Bible never declares that Mary fulfills those roles. That is the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church, which is contrary to Scriptures.
You will stand in judgment before the Father in Heaven, not the Pope.
You’re only hope is to have a covenant relationship with the Father through faith in His Son.

THE ANTICHRIST FALSE DOCTRINES OF TRINITY

.

I am not going to argue or debate on the subject of the Antichrists Trinity, because these evil Antichrist had the audacity to cause confusion but they have failed. Even though they added In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost in the Gospel of Mathew 28: Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Which they have done in so many places in the bible scriptures because they were the ones to hat compiled the entire bible and have added and took away some books in the bible. Even then, Jesus Christ did not send me to His churches to argue or debate on things pertaining to the Holy Spirit. God is one according to His he verses that I quoted below
Deuteromy 4-6 4: Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
5: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. Also in 1st John 5: 7-8! For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one The bible makes the above bible references so clear and hat each verse says that these three are ONE. So explanatory. The he Antichrists have knowingly been confusing their churches for these many years. We can take the he three branches from the stem of a tree to say these three branches are from one stem and that is all the meaning that the word of God meant by saying, the Father , the Son and the Holy Spirit are one. Also, if a person bears three names, Abraham Peter and John. if he happened to go to Germany and called himself Abraham, if he went to England and called his name Peter and finally went to Africa and called his name John. Does the three names made him three persons? Of course not, he will forever one person. But the Antichrists are evil and they will always cause confusion wherever they are which they have been doing since they fell away from the truth of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Antichrists are Confucianists. Jesus commented His apostle to do with
Things on His name John 14: And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
The apostles baptised in the name of Jesus the word for hat and as in a he beginning John 1:1 In the beginning was the word, the word was with God and the word was God. So, any arquement or debate on things of the Holy Spirit is baseless and can never bring the truth. John 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him God is a Spirit John 4:24. He hose that will worship God must worship Him in Spirit and truth John 4:24. Further, all believers in our Lord Jesus Christ walk by faith 2nd Corinthians 5:7 For we walk by faith not by sight. And faith is Chapter 11
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen

The festival of Corpus Christi intituted by the antichrists

Introduction
The festival of Corpus Christi celebrates the Eucharist as the body of Christ. The name ‘Corpus Christi’ is Latin for ‘the body of Christ’.
This jubilant festival is celebrated by Roman Catholics and other Christians to proclaim the truth of the transubstantiation of bread and wine into the actual body of Christ during Mass.
In some countries in the world, Catholic churches still celebrate the festival, not only with a Mass, but also with a procession that carries the consecrated wafer through the streets as a public statement that the sacrifice of Christ was for the salvation of the whole world.
Corpus Christi falls between late May and the middle of June, on the first Thursday after Trinity Sunday (60 days after Easter). In some countries the festival is celebrated on the Sunday after Trinity Sunday.
In the Church of England this feast is also kept on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday and known as the Day of Thanksgiving for the Institution of Holy Communion (Corpus Christi).
It’s worth noting that Christians already mark the Last Supper, when Christ instituted the Eucharist, on Maundy Thursday (the day before Good Friday). Because Maundy Thursday falls during the solemn period of Holy Week, it was thought necessary to have a separate festival of the Eucharist that would allow the celebration not to be muted by sadness.

The celebration
The main feature of Corpus Christi celebrations is the triumphant liturgical procession in which the sacred host (the wafer that has been consecrated during the Mass) is carried out of the Church “for the Christian faithful to make public profession of faith and worship of the Most Blessed Sacrament”. images of Corpus Christi
.
During his papacy, Pope John Paul II led an annual Corpus Christi procession from St Peter’s Square in the Vatican to the streets of Rome. Many traditional Catholics are keen for such processions to be promoted everywhere in the world in the light of the late Pope’s example.
Since, for Catholics, the host contains the real presence of Christ, it is treated as Christ in human form would be treated, with reverence, ceremony and adoration.
The host is displayed on a ‘monstrance’ and protected from the sun by a canopy.
The procession moves through local streets, either to another church, or back to the church where it began.
The Church states that
The structure of the procession is often designed to demonstrate the hierarchy of heaven in that the sacred host is followed in procession by various Church organisations carrying the banners of their patron saints.
Churches may prepare for the festival in the days before by various smaller-scale ceremonies such as the Adoration of the Sacrament, and services which explore the ‘eucharistic dimension’ of various elements of parish work.
The liturgy
Corpus Christi is marked by a service originally devised by Thomas Aquinas. It includes five great hymns, including Panis Angelicus (part of a longer hymn called Sacris Solemniis, ‘At this our solemn feast’):
Pauper, pauper
History
The festival was inspired by the religious experience of St Juliana (1193-1258), a Belgian nun, who dreamed repeatedly of the Church under a full moon with a black spot.
According to legend, the dream was interpreted to her in a vision by Christ. The moon, she said, was the Church’s calendarof festivals and the black spot was the lack of a festival to celebrate the holiest element of the Church – the Eucharist.
Juliana shared this with her local bishop, who in 1246 issued a decree for such a festival to be celebrated in his territory.
The festival was instituted throughout the Church by Pope Urban IV in 1264. Before that there had been no universal festival to mark the sacrament of the Eucharist.
Corpus Christi was made an obligatory feast for Roman Catholics by Pope Clement V in 1311 at the Council of Vienne.
Corpus Christi was celebrated in England from 1318 onwards.
In 1551, the Council of Trent described the festival as a ‘triumph over heresy’. They meant by this that when Christians celebrated the festival they affirmed their belief in the doctrine of transubstantiation, and thus the victory of the Church over those heretics who denied that the consecrated wafer became the real body of Christ during the Mass.
From the Middle Ages onwards, special Corpus Christi plays were staged to mark the occasion.
Corpus Christi in Spain
The festival took an additional meaning in Spain, since it was always attended by the secular rulers of the area. The procession in Madrid was joined by the King and/or Queen, as well as senior nobles. This symbolised the unity of the sacred and secular powers and linked both in victory over outsiders.
Corpus Christi and Imperialism
Carolyn Dean makes a further interesting point about the Spanish celebration of Corpus Christi as acting out Spain’s colonial successes:
Geography
The festival has a particular resonance for Spain and Portugal, and countries in Latin America. In Seville the festival was known as ‘the Thursday that shines greater than the sun’.
In such countries the festival is popular and elaborate. The triumphal nature of the celebration is acted out by treating the sacred host almost as if it were a military hero returning in victory from the wars – the host may be carried on a cart (representing a chariot) through crowds and beneath triumphal arches erected for the event.
Historically, the festival was accompanied by music, dancing and fireworks.
There are Corpus Christi colleges at the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, and a major city of that name in Texas.

Maundy Thursday, also called Holy Thursday or Sheer Thursday, the Thursday before Easter, observed in commemoration of Jesus Christ’s institution of the Eucharist during the Last Supper.
The name is thought to be a Middle Englishderivation taken from a Latin anthem sung in Roman Catholic churches on that day: “Mandatum novum do vobis” (“a new commandment I give to you”; John 13:34). In most European countries, Maundy Thursday is known as Holy Thursday; other names are Green Thursday (Gründonnerstag; common in Germany), from the early practice of giving penitents a green branch as a token for completing their Lenten penance, and Sheer Thursday (clean Thursday), which refers to the ceremonial washing of altars on this day.
In the early Christian church, the day was celebrated with a general communion of clergy and people. At a special mass the bishop consecrated the chrism (holy oils) in preparation for the anointing of the neophytes at the baptism on Easter night. Since 1956 Maundy Thursday has been celebrated in Roman Catholic churches with a morning liturgy for the consecration of the holy oils for the coming year and an evening liturgy in commemoration of the institution of the Eucharist, with a general communion. During the evening liturgy the hosts are consecrated for the communion on Good Friday (when there is no liturgy), and the ceremony of the washing of feet is performed by the celebrant, who ceremonially washes the feet of 12 people in memory of Christ’s washing the feet of his disciples. Eastern Orthodox churches also have a ceremony of foot washing and blessing of oil on this day.
In England alms are distributed to the poor by the British sovereign in a ceremony held at a different church each year. This developed from a former practice in which the sovereign washed the feet of the poor on this day.

Ash Wednesday derives its name from the placing of repentance ashes on the foreheads of participants to either the words “Repent, and believe in the Gospel” or the dictum “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”[6] The ashes are prepared by burning palm leavesfrom the previous year’s Palm Sunday celebrations.

Palm Sunday — or is it Passion Sunday? — marks the beginning of Holy Week.
This day commemorates not one but two very significant events in the life of Christ.
Here are 9 things you need to know.
- What is this day called?
The day is called both “Palm Sunday” and “Passion Sunday.” The bible did not say anyone should use it as feast or celebration whatsoever

The first name comes from the fact that it commemorates Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, when the crowd had palm branches (John 12:13).
The second name comes from the fact that the narrative of the Passion is read on this Sunday (it otherwise wouldn’t be read on a Sunday, since the next Sunday is about the Resurrection).
According to the main document on the celebration of the feasts connected with Easter,

❤️❤️❤️All the Popes are politicians, first class celebrities and almost the entire world adores them and through their sorceries they attract hugest ever crowds everywhere they go.
The 1.5 million or so people who crowd into Benjamin Franklin Parkway to see Pope Francis next week are going to want to use their cell phones. They’re going to want to take a picture or a vide, o and it post it to Instagram or Snapchat. This is a fact. It’s 2015 and attendance at a Pope party is something people will want to share with friends and family.
The problem is these tons of people will be doing all of this at the same time, straining cellular and WiFi networks. The good news is AT&T and Verizon Wireless have spent a combined $47 million in Philadelphia to increase capacity on their networks and make this less of a problem. The bad news? Still 1.5 million people piling into an area of far less than a square mile.
“It’s going to be very difficult to support that many people no matter what they do, even if money was not an object,” said Andrea Goldsmith, an engineering professor at Stanford and the leader of the school’s Wireless Systems Lab. “Even if money and time were not an object.”
The problem boils down to volume. Tons of people will be battling for the same space on either WiFi or cellular networks at the same time.
❤️❤️❤️ Put the picture of any of the Popes blessing people

The pope has blessed the faithful from his window overlooking St Peter’s Square for the first time since announcing his resignation, cheered by a crowd of tens of thousands from around the world.
Smiling broadly, Benedict raised his arms outstretched in his penultimate Angelus blessing before leaving the papacy. A huge banner in the square read: “We love you.”
The blessing, which takes place at midday on Sunday, is one of the most cherished traditions of the Catholic church, and this was one of Benedict’s last opportunities to connect with the masses.
His voice was strong and clear as he looked into hazy sunshine over the square and addressed at least 50,000 pilgrims in Italian, English, French, German, Polish and Spanish.
Benedict made no direct reference to his decision to step down, but in his Spanish comments he asked the crowd to “continue praying for me and for the next pope”.
He thanked the crowd for their “affection and spiritual closeness” and gave particular thanks to the “beloved inhabitants of the city of Rome”, a possible hint at the title he will take after retirement. The Vatican has suggested he may be called the emeritus bishop of Rome.

The Angelus blessing normally attracts a few thousand pilgrims and tourists, but city officials prepared for a crush of people seeking to witness a moment of history.
“We wanted to wish him well,” said Amy Champion, a tourist from Wales. “It takes a lot of guts to take the job and even more guts … to quit.”
Rome put on extra buses and underground trains to help deal with the crowds and offered free shuttle vans for elderly and disabled people.
After Sunday evening the pope will be out of the public eye for a week. A meditation service at the Vatican marks the beginning of the traditional Lenten period of reflection and prayer.
While cardinals elect his successor next month in a conclave in the Sistine Chapel, Benedict will be in retreat at the Holy See’s summer estate in the hills south-east of Rome. After several weeks he is expected to move into a monastery being refurbished for him behind the Vatican City walls, where he will lead a largely cloistered life.
The Vatican has not announced a date for the start of the conclave but said on Saturday that it might start sooner than 15 March, the earliest date it can be launched under current rules. Benedict would have to sign off on any earlier date, an act that would be one of the last of his nearly eight-year papacy.
The first cardinals have started arriving in Rome to begin a period of intense politicking to decide who are the leading candidates to be the next pope. The Guinea-born archbishop Robert Sarah, a cardinal who leads the Vatican’s charity office, told reporters when he arrived that the churchmen should select their new leader with “serenity and trust”.
Pope Francis used Sunday’s (August 26) homily in Dublin’s Phoenix Park to ask for the Church to be forgiven for “abuses in Ireland” conducted by members of the clergy.
An organiser of Sunday’s papal Mass in the Phoenix Park has estimated that 200,000 people attended the Dublin event, based on the amount of communion used.
Fr Damian McNeice said on Monday that the figure was an anecdotal “guesstimate” and that he had “no idea” of the actual number.
Dr Patrick Plunkett, the medical director of the site’s field hospital, said on Sunday that he believed 130,000 people had attended the Mass. Some 500,000 people were expected in the Phoenix Park Mass but the actual turnout on the day was significantly smaller. The Vatican had estimated the attendance at 300,000.
Asked on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland to comment on the numbers in attendance, Fr McNeice said the crowd was “way beyond my expectations”.
“I couldn’t believe the number of people that actually turned up yesterday” he said, citing the poor weather and heavy rain as reasons for people to stay home.
Fr McNeice said his estimation of 200,000 was based on the 370,000 communion hosts prepared for holy communion at the Mass, saying that more than half had been used during the event.
The environments team were tasked with texturing all of these well-known locations using digital matte painting techniques including re-creating Michelangelo’s masterpiece on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
The story centres around two key changes of Pope in 2005 and 2013, events which attracted huge attention, filling St Peter’s Square with devotees eager to discover the identity of the new Pope and celebrate their ascension. News crews from around the world also camp out to provide coverage for the billions of Catholics all over the world. To recreate these scenes the crew shot at a school in Rome (Ponte Mammolo) that has the same pattern on its floor. A cast of 300 extras were shot in blocks in different positions at different times of day, with costume tweaks including the addition of umbrellas to build a library to provide enough flexibility during postproduction to recreate these pivotal moments at different times of day and in different weather conditions.
Union also used Clear Angle to individually scan 50 extras to provide additional options for the VFX team.
This was an ambitious crowd project. We couldn’t shoot in the location and the end result had to stand up at 4K in very close proximity to the camera.
Union created visual effects of large crowds filling St Peter’s Square for Fernando Meirelles’ The Two Popes. Image courtesy of Union VFX.
While working on the film, Union designed a Houdini based system to cope with the unprecedented number of assets and their clothing in a way that the team could easily art direct them as individuals, allow the Director to choreograph them and deliver a believable result.
Several motion capture shoots were conducted in house at Union to provide some specific animation cycles that married with the occasions the team were recreating. This provided even more flexibility to the team during postproduction resulting authentic looking crowds.
Union worked on a total of 288 VFX shots including green screens, set extensions, window reflections, muzzle flashes, fog and rain and a storm that included a lightning strike on the Basilica.
In addition, the team did a significant amount of de-ageing work to accommodate the film’s 8-year main narrative timeline as well as a long period in Pope Francis’ younger years.

Pope Francis has declared John XXIII and John Paul II saints in the first-ever dual canonization.

THE DEAD BODY OF POPE JOHN PAUL 11 WAS TAKEN OUT FROM THE TOMB AND POPE FRANCIS MADE THE DEAD BODY INTO A SAINT

Pope Francis and his predecessor, Benedict XVI, presided over the April 27 ceremony at the Vatican to recognize two of the most charismatic modern leaders of the Catholic Church as saints.
“After due deliberation and frequent prayer for divine assistance and having sought the counsel of many of our brother bishops, we declare and define Blessed John XXIII and John Paul II saints and we enroll them among the saints, decreeing that they are to be venerated as such by the whole church,” Pope Benedict told the crowd.
The mass took place at St. Peter’s Square and was being attended by some 150 cardinals and 1,000 bishops.
As many as 1 million people were expected to pack the square and nearby streets of Rome to witness the televised event.
John Paul II was born in Poland as Karol Wojtyla and widely credited for contributing to the collapse of communism during his 1978-2005 papacy.
John XXIII, born Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli in Italy, became known as “Good Pope John” while he led the Vatican in 1958-63.

For two millennia, people around the world have been observing it with traditions and practices that are both religious and secular in nature. Christians celebrate Christmas Day as the anniversary of the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, a spiritual leader whose teachings form the basis of their religion. Popular customs include exchanging gifts, decorating Christmas trees, attending church, sharing meals with family and friends and, of course, waiting for Santa Claus to arrive. December 25—Christmas Day—has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1870.

How Did Christmas Start?

The middle of winter has long been a time of celebration around the world. Centuries before the arrival of our Lord Jesus Christ early Europeans celebrated light and birth in the darkest days of winter. Many peoples rejoiced during the winter solstice, when the worst of the winter was behind them, and they could look forward to longer days and extended hours of sunlight.
In Scandinavia, the Norse celebrated Yule from December 21, the winter solstice, through January. In recognition of the return of the sun, fathers and sons would bring home large logs, which they would set on fire. The people would feast until the log burned out, which could take as many as 12 days. The Norse believed that each spark from the fire represented a new pig or calf that would be born during the coming year.
25th of December
The end of December was a perfect time for celebration in most areas of Europe. At that time of year, most cattle were slaughtered so they would not have to be fed during the winter. For many, it was the only time of year when they had a supply of fresh meat. In addition, most wine and beer made during the year was finally fermented and ready for drinking.
In Germany, people honored the pagan god Oden during the mid-winter holiday. Germans were terrified of Oden, as they believed he made nocturnal flights through the sky to observe his people, and then decide who would prosper or perish. Because of his presence, many people chose to stay inside.
Saturnalia
In Rome, where winters were not as harsh as those in the far north, Saturnalia—a holiday in honor of Saturn, the god of agriculture—was celebrated. Beginning in the week leading up to the winter solstice and continuing for a full month, Saturnalia was a hedonistic time, when food and drink were plentiful, and the normal Roman social order was turned upside down. For a month, enslaved people were given temporary freedom and treated as equals. Business and schools were closed so that everyone could participate in the holiday’s festivities.
Also, around the time of the winter solstice, Romans observed Juvenalia, a feast honoring the children of Rome. In addition, members of the upper classes often celebrated the birthday of Mithra, the god of the unconquerable sun, on December 25. It was believed that Mithra, an infant god, was born of a rock. For some Romans, Mithra’s birthday was the most sacred day of the year.
Is Christmas Really the Day Jesus Was Born?
In the early years of Christianity, Easter was the main holiday; the birth of Jesus was not celebrated. In the fourth century, church officials decided to institute the birth of Jesus as a holiday. Unfortunately, the Bible does not mention date for his birth (a fact Puritans later pointed out in order to deny the legitimacy of the celebration). Although some evidence suggests that his birth may have occurred in the spring (why would shepherds be herding in the middle of winter?), Pope Julius I chose December 25. It is commonly believed that the church chose this date in an effort to adopt and absorb the traditions of the pagan Saturnalia festival. First called the Feast of the Nativity, the custom spread to Egypt by 432 and to England by the end of the sixth century.
By holding Christmas at the same time as traditional winter solsticefestivals, church leaders increased the chances that Christmas would be popularly embraced, but gave up the ability to dictate how it was celebrated. By the Middle Ages, Christianity had, for the most part, replaced pagan religion. On Christmas, believers attended church, then celebrated raucously in a drunken, carnival-like atmosphere similar to today’s Mardi Gras. Each year, a beggar or student would be crowned the “lord of misrule” and eager celebrants played the part of his subjects. The poor would go to the houses of the rich and demand their best food and drink. If owners failed to comply, their visitors would most likely terrorize them with mischief. Christmas became the time of year when the upper classes could repay their real or imagined “debt” to society by entertaining less fortunate citizens.
When Christmas Was Cancelled?
In the early 17th century, a wave of religious reform changed the way Christmas was celebrated in Europe. When Oliver Cromwelland his Puritan forces took over England in 1645, they vowed to rid England of decadence and, as part of their effort, cancelled Christmas. By popular demand, Charles II was restored to the throne and, with him, came the return of the popular holiday.
The pilgrims, English separatists that came to America in 1620, were even more orthodox in their Puritan beliefs than Cromwell. As a result, Christmas was not a holiday in early America. From 1659 to 1681, the celebration of Christmas was actually outlawed in Boston. Anyone exhibiting the Christmas spirit was fined five shillings. By contrast, in the Jamestown settlement, Captain John Smith reported that Christmas was enjoyed by all and passed without incident.
After the American Revolution, English customs fell out of favor, including Christmas. In fact, Christmas wasn’t declared a federal holiday until June 26, 1870.

Washington Irving Reinvents Christmas
It wasn’t until the 19th century that Americans began to embrace Christmas. Americans re-invented Christmas and changed it from a raucous carnival holiday into a family-centered day of peace and nostalgia. But what about the 1800s piqued American interest in the holiday?
The early 19th century was a period of class conflict and turmoil. During this time, unemployment was high and gang rioting by the disenchanted classes often occurred during the Christmas season. In 1828, the New York city council instituted the city’s first police force in response to a Christmas riot. This catalyzed certain members of the upper classes to begin to change the way Christmas was celebrated in America.
In 1819, best-selling author Washington Irving wrote The Sketchbook of Geoffrey Crayon, gent., a series of stories about the celebration of Christmas in an English manor house. The sketches feature a squire who invited the peasants into his home for the holiday. In contrast to the problems faced in American society, the two groups mingled effortlessly. In Irving’s mind, Christmas should be a peaceful, warm-hearted holiday bringing groups together across lines of wealth or social status. Irving’s fictitious celebrants enjoyed “ancient customs,” including the crowning of a Lord of Misrule. Irving’s book, however, was not based on any holiday celebration he had attended—in fact, many historians say that Irving’s account actually “invented” tradition by implying that it described the true customs of the season.
A Christmas Carol
Also, around this time, English author Charles Dickens created the classic holiday tale, A Christmas Carol. The story’s message-the importance of charity and good will towards all humankind-struck a powerful chord in the United States and England and showed members of Victorian society the benefits of celebrating the holiday.

How the Early Catholic Church Christianized Halloween
After the Romans conquered ancient Celtic realms, pagan traditions were adopted into a holiday honoring Catholic saints.

Halloween may be a secular affair today, dominated by candy, costumes and trick-or-treating, but the holiday is rooted in an annual Celtic pagan festival called Samhain (pronounced “SAH- wane”) that was then appropriated by the early Catholic Church some 1,200 years ago.
The ancient Celts were an assortment of tribes and small kingdoms once scattered across western and Central Europe with distinctive languages and culture, explains Frederick Suppe, a historian specializing in Celtic and medieval history at Ball State University in Indiana.
Even after the Romans conquered their realm, Celts continued to survive and thrive in places such as Brittany, Cornwall, Ireland, theIsle of Man, Scotland, and Wales.
Halloween Inspired by Samhain
Halloween’s origins can be traced to the Celtic holiday of Samhain, a druidic festival held on October 31.

Samhain, the Celtic festival that is the ancestor of Halloween, was related to the Celts’ way of looking at the world. “All the Celtic peoples conceived of a fundamental dichotomy between light and dark, with the former representing positive, lucky, fruitful values and the latter representing negative, threatening, destructive values,” Suppe explains.
The Celtic year began at sundown at the end of the autumn harvest, continued through the darkness of winter and the early spring into the brightness of the summer growing season, and concluded with the harvest. Two big holidays divided their year—Beltane, which took place April 30-May 1 on our calendar, and Samhain, which occurred from October 31 to November 1.
Samhain was the moment when the spiritual world became visible to humans, and the gods enjoyed playing tricks on mortals. It was also a time when the spirits of the dead mingled with the living.
The Celts believed in gathering all their harvests by Samhain, “so that it would not be damaged by the evil or mischievous spirits who could return on the first evening of the dark half of the year,” Suppe says. “Token offerings of the harvested food should be offered to the spirits to placate them
