Hypocrites talk about Jesus, pray, etc. But their hearts are not cooperating.
25. Mark 7:6
He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: “‘These people honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.
Many people know the Bible front and back, but they are not living the life that they recite to others.
James 1:22-23
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
Hypocrites may have remorse over sins, but they never change. There is a difference between worldly and godly sorrow. Godly sorrow leads to repentance. With worldly sorrow you are only sad that you got caught.
Matthew 27:3-5
When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders. “I have sinned,” he said, “for I have betrayed innocent blood.” “What is that to us?” they replied. “That’s your responsibility.” So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.
26. Hypocrites are self-righteous and they think that they are better Christians than everyone so they look down upon others.
Luke 18:11-12
The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people–robbers, evildoers, adulterers–or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’
Christians submit to the righteousness of Christ. Hypocrites seek their own righteousness and their own glory.
Romans 10:3
Since they did not know the righteousness of God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness.
John 7:24
Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.”
Romans 14:1-3
Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters. One person’s faith allows them to eat anything, but another, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted them.
